OAKLAND — Wide receiver/return specialist Joshua Cribbs is active for today’s game against the Oakland Raiders despite missing Wednesday and Thursday’s practices and being listed as “questionable” after being limited Friday before the team traveled to Oakland.
Cribbs is averaging 12.8 yards over 28 punt returns (fifth in the NFL) and 28.4 yards over 30 kickoff returns (seventh) this season. He has gained 54 yards on six receptions and has five special teams’ tackles.
While Cribbs is in the lineup, the Browns have deactivated defensive backs Dimitri Patterson, Ray Ventrone and Usama Young, running back Brandon Jackson, defensive lineman Ronnie Cameron, offensive lineman Jarrod Shaw and wide receiver Josh Cooper.
Rookie Tashaun Gipson will start at free safety for Young. Gipson made his first career start last week when the Browns started the game in a nickel defense in their 20-14 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Second-year defensive back Eric Hagg, who was “questionable” after missing Friday’s practice with an illness, is active for the game.
The Raiders have deactivated running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson, offensive lineman Lucas Nix, tackle Willie Smith, defensive end Jack Crawford, linebacker Rolando McClain and defensive tackle Richard Seymour for today’s game.
Crawford (toe), Seymour (knee/hamstring) and McClain (team suspension) were listed as “out” on Friday injury report. McFadden and Goodson were “questionable” for the game after being limited in practice by ankle injuries this week.
Marcel Reece will start at running back for McFadden and Owen Schmitt will go for Reece at fullback. Defensive tackle Desmond Bryant will play for Seymour and Omar Gaither will start at middle linebacker for McClain.
