There’s a different feeling around the Browns’ practice facility.
You can see it in the faces and hear it in the voices of just about everyone in the building. The expressions are more serious. Words tend to come a bit more sparingly.
It is Opening Week. It is the time when the process of evaluating players for the sake of putting together a 53-man roster gives way to full-scale preparation for the first meaningful game the Browns have played since Jan. 2.
“Big week!” was the first thing the security guard at the front desk said as I arrived for work this morning. He didn’t have to explain why.
And as the Browns get ready to face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday at Cleveland Browns Stadium, “Cleveland Browns Daily, Driven by Liberty Ford” is ramping up its game as well.
The show’s first week of the regular season will introduce some new and, we believe, exciting elements that will air on a weekly basis through the balance of the Browns’ schedule.
Check this out:
–Beginning today, we’ll have an “Alumni Spotlight” segment, featuring former Browns players who will serve as honorary captains for home games and others with whom we just want to catch up. The first segment will include one of the greatest cornerback duos in the history of the NFL: Hanford Dixon and Frank Minnifield.
–Each Thursday we’ll check in with the television-network analyst assigned to the Browns’ game. This week, Solomon Wilcots will join us to offer his perspectives on Sunday’s big AFC North showdown and plenty of thoughts about how the Browns look to him.
–Thursday also is when we’ll give you a historical perspective on each Browns opponent. Helping us to do that is resident team historian Steve King.
–On Friday, we’ll have the first of our weekly media roundtable discussions with the Browns Radio Network broadcast team of Jim Donovan and Doug Dieken, and Tom Withers of the Associated Press. This will mark the first appearances on “Cleveland Browns Daily, Driven by Liberty Ford” by Donovan and Withers, and we couldn’t be happier to have the insights and opinions of two of the more respected journalists covering the team.
–Capping off each Friday edition of the show is our fantasy segment when we are joined by a member of a rotating panel of fantasy football experts from NFL Network and NFL.com.
I can’t wait to get it started.
As the security guard said, “Big week!”
