NEW ORLEANS, LA—Rookie Colt McCoy will get the start against the New Orleans Saints at the Louisiana Superdome as quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace are inactive for today’s game.
Wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, offensive linemen John St. Clair and Steve Vallos, defensive lineman Jayme Mitchell, tight end Alex Smith and running back James Davis also will not play against the defending Super Bowl champions
Floyd Womack will start at right tackle and Billy Yates will take Womack’s spot at right guard. Joshua Cribbs will start for Massaquoi.
Massaquoi, St. Clair and Wallace were listed as “Doubtful” on Friday’s injury report before being downgraded to “Out” after the team landed in New Orleans.
Wallace had started four of the previous five games for the Browns in place of Delhomme, who was injured in the season opener at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In Delhomme’s absence, Wallace completed 63-of-100 passes for 693 yards and four touchdowns against two interceptions.
McCoy got the start in place of Wallace and Delhomme in last Sunday’s 28-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field. He went 23-of-33 for 281 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
St. Clair was the starter at right tackle for the first three games of the season, but remained inactive for contests against the Cincinnati Bengals, Falcons and Steelers.
The Saints will be without running backs Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush, cornerbacks Tracy Porter and Jabari Greer, linebacker Scot Shanle, tackle Charles Brown, tight end Tory Humphrey and defensive end Junior Galette for today’s game.
Chris Ivory will start at running back for Bush and Thomas, while Leigh Torrence will fill Porter’s spot at right cornerback. Patrick Robinson replaces Greer at left cornerback and Danny Clark starts at strong side linebacker.
